La Crosse Mayo Clinic recognized for its organ donation program

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WKBT) – The Mayo Clinic health system in La Crosse has been recognized for its organ and tissue donation program, along with 22 other hospitals in Wisconsin.

He received the Excellence in Tissue Donation Award from the University of Wisconsin for Organ and Tissue Donation for his continued commitment to saving and improving lives through organ and tissue donation.

The award is given to Versiti partner hospitals that achieve a consent rate of at least 60%. The 60% measure measures the collaborative work between hospital staff and the tissue bank in coordinating communication around tissue consent conversations.

These donations save lives, say health officials.

“Organ and tissue transplants give people a new chance to lead active lives,” said Carrie Apuan, nursing manager at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. “Those who commit to being a donor are making a selfless choice that allows us to help others. It is imperative to understand that family members of the donor often report a sense of peace and comfort in knowing that they have provided another such a tremendous opportunity. We are committed to providing excellent care to our patients and their families as they journey on this very emotional journey. “
