Calling long weekend heroes! Blood donation center opens at Hillcrest Shopping Center for life-saving treatment

Canadian Blood Services says it not only needs new donors, but it needs donors to contact and verify cancellations to fill all necessary appointments.

Did you know that Canada needs over 100,000 new blood donors this year to meet the demand for patient support?

Canadian Blood Services is asking York Region residents to be heroes this long weekend by helping support patients by booking and keeping appointments to donate blood at the Hillcrest Mall Donor Center in Richmond Hill.

Located at 9350 Yonge Street (external access only near the entrance to Mall #5), the Donor Center has over 100 open appointments to fill at donation events on July 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., July 30 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and August 1 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Canadian Blood Services is a not-for-profit charitable organization regulated by Health Canada.

In June, the organization reported that during the pandemic, the number of regular donors had dropped by 31,000, resulting in the smallest donor base in a decade.

He asked the public for their support, and the public responded and made a difference. June 2022 was the third highest month for new donors since the start of the pandemic.

But more is needed to support patients now and in the future, especially with the unpredictability of the pandemic.

The summer months are always a challenge for collections, but it’s important to remember that patients’ needs don’t stop with good weather. When some are having fun at the cottage, cancer patients, accident victims and people with blood disorders need vital blood products.

“Whether you donate blood, platelets and plasma, or register as a stem cell or organ and tissue donor, please show up for the patients and be a long weekend hero. Lives depend on it! reads a press release from Canadian Blood Services.

Reserve now at blood.ca, use the GiveBlood app or call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
