Bay Shore Brewery to hold blood drive for World Blood Donor Day
BAY SHORE, NY – A former New York Jets team member and a Bay Shore brewery are teaming up to encourage blood donations in honor of World Blood Donor Day.
The New York Blood Center, in partnership with the Mary Lyons Foundation, will hold a blood drive on Tuesday at the Great South Bay Brewery, located at 25 Drexel Drive, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Anyone who donates blood will receive a ‘pint for a pint’ and receive a free pint of beer as a reward for their life-saving donation.
The campaign will be sponsored by former New York Jets player Marty Lyons and the Marty Lyons Foundation on World Blood Donor Day, which aims to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products. and to thank blood donors for their donations.
The Marty Lyons Foundation was established in 1982 by Lyons, with a mission to fulfill the wishes of children ages 3 to 17 who have been diagnosed with a terminal or life-threatening illness.
The foundation hopes this campaign will also help give back to the community, as the blood supply remains critically low.
Last month, NYBC announced a state blood emergency due to an alarming drop in blood donations. According to a press release, the region’s blood supply is currently at a level of only 2-3 days, which is well below the ideal supply of 5-7 days.
