Gloucestershire residents invited to talk about organ donation with loved ones
The NHS Blood and Transplant Service is using Organ Donation Week, September 20-26, to ask Gloucestershire residents to share their organ donation decision with their families.
In Gloucestershire there are currently 79 people on the transplant waiting list.
After a difficult year for local health services, wait times are predicted to increase for the kidneys, hearts, livers and lungs. This is why the NHS Blood and Transplant is urging families to talk about organ donation and increase the chances of children and adults in need of life-saving transplants.

GloucestershireLive spoke this week with the family who suffered the tragic loss of Faye Rathbone, 33.
Faye’s mother Sharon said: “We knew right away what she wanted because she had told us about it and had been on the NHS organ donor register for years.”
Organs donated by Faye saved five lives.
In Gloucestershire last year, 41 people were rescued after one person died and their organs were donated.
Across the country, according to NHS Blood and Transplant estimates, 7,000 adults and 200 children are waiting for organ transplants.
Anthony Clarkson, Director of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation, NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “Even though the organ donation law has changed to an adult withdrawal system in England, in Scotland and Wales it is important for people to be aware that families will always be consulted before organ donation.
“It’s just as important as ever to let your family and friends know about your organ donation decision and let them know what will happen to you in the event of your death.
“We urge all family members of all ages in Gloucestershire to take a moment this organ donation week to speak up and share your decision.”
